As part of a recent prototype activity, one of the requirements was to deploy the container based Microservices in an efficient and resilient manner on a Kubernetes cluster that has nodes spread across multiple zones. First, we will review various scaling scenarios required, and later in the post I will share details on how to use Well-Known Labels, pod topology spread constraints and pod affinity Kubernetes concepts to achieve our goal.
In the earlier post, 1 - Scripting kubernetes-the-hard-way we discussed that I developed the scripts to save time when experimenting with local kubernetes, and later we reviewed the structure and purpose of the scripts. In this part, we will continue looking at the requirements for installation and perform the installation afterwards.
During preparation for my Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) and Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist (CKS) exams I realized the value of having a local Kubernetes cluster that can be used to experiment. Initially, I followed the instructions from kubernetes-the-hard-way by Kelsey Hightower and manually built a local cluster on my Windows 10 laptop.
I have debated with myself for a long time before committing to sharing my tech and life experience. I always felt that there are thousands of blogs, and the world doesn’t need one more.
